French Colonies Basic Set (1670-1767)

We’ve given the French Colonies their own section, since none of the French lands became "American" until the U.S. government purchased the Louisiana territory in 1803, well after the colonial period had ended. Most of these interesting silver and copper coins circulated in areas in Canada, Newfoundland, and the West Indies, eventually seeping into the American colonies where they were eagerly accepted as money. Rarities in this set include the unique 1670 Double, the extremely rare 1670 15 Sols, and the 1717 6 and 12 Deniers from the Perpignan mint. The later billon coins and copper sous are all easy to obtain, so beginning collectors have a chance to play here, as well. Vive la France!
