Jefferson Nickels Westward Journey Series Complete Variety Set, Circulation Strikes (2004-2006)

To commemorate the bicentennial of the Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark Expedition, the Westward Journey Nickel Series was struck during 2004 and 2005. Two different reverses were used each year, for a total of four different coins. These were struck at both Philadelphia and Denver. Proofs were made in San Francisco. The series concluded with the "Back to Monticello" issue of 2006 which featured a new facing portrait of Jefferson on the obverse. Some of the varieties in this set include the satin finishes of the 2005 and 2006 issues, and the noteworthy "Speared Bison" variety of the 2005-D, caused by a light gouge in the die.
