The "Original" DLH 3rd Grade Starter Set 的钱币相册
Bought raw and certified; beautiful Obverse color... Should be in a Pr01 holder!
This is one of the tougher Low Ball Coins in the entire type series! Until this coin was graded Pr01 there were no coins graded by PCGS of the 3 possible No Drapery dates; 38, 39, & 40-O graded in Poor! Found raw on E-bay and listed just as an 1840 Liberty Seated Quarter....?? The seller didn't realize first to list it as a "No Drapery Date", and second, it had to be a New Orleans Mint coin being such even though the reverse was too worn to discern even a partial "O" mintmark! I wondered if anybody else had caught these facts and waited... Another friend in the Low Ball community encountered this same coin and was wondering the same thing! Talk about a Mad Magazine flash back; "Spy vs Spy"! We had to wait until the very last second to see if either of us was the only person who noticed! We both bid strong numbers on the coin, and I was the fortunate winner... The following morning I got the phone call... Did you.....???? 😊

Hard to Believe this coin was bought in an ANACS Fr2 holder! Cracked out and sent in raw; certified Pr01... ANACS Fr2 Coin bought from Great Collections
Certified from raw. Large "O" FS-501. I wish to place this coin into the set as it was a gift from a dear friend, Chick M. Many thanks Chick!!
Bought raw on E-bay and certified. POP 2 coin; own both of them... For some reason, this date did not circulate all that much as this is the lowest grade certified so far?? Was it hoarded for the Silver?
Bought this coin raw from Jeff at FWC and certified. Certainly not the prettiest one at the dance!!
Bought raw from Harry S. in July 2022. This is another coin that is a POP 1 coin with only 1 coin graded by PCGS lower! Were dates like this and coins of the era like the 1850 of which the lowest graded is AG3, melted in the early to mid 1850's, or were heavily circulated pieces sent to the melting pots decades if not a century later when Silver jumped above normal pricing levels??
Bought raw from Greg M. and certified. POP 2 nothing lower. Another one to wonder; were most melted??
Made... After 2 body bags; "Authenticity Unverifiable" due (?) to no date showing, I pointed out to the Grading Gods that a date is not necessary on certain one-year type coins, per their "Official Grading Guide".... Graded!
Bought the coin raw at a small coin show in Shreveport, LA (2022) in an unattributed flip. Sent this coin to PCGS 2 times to finally get their graders to wake up and realize what this coin was!! POP 1 coin which is really tougher than you'd think!!
POP 2 with nothing lower... Own both FR2's... Bought raw on E-bay and certified.
Back in 2021 when I bought this coin raw and certified, it was a POP 2 coin... Fast forward to January 2024 and it is now a POP 5 coin!! It appears that collecting and certifying Low Ball coins is catching on??
Interesting buy on E-bay... This coin was listed on E-bay as an 1858-O! I thought it was a 56 but would have to buy it to find out! This is another example of being a POP 1 coin in 2022 when I bought it raw and had it certified... It is now a POP 2 coin...
Bought Raw at the Conroe show (Houston, Texas). Thanks Ed!
This coin caught my eye in a group of 4 coins on E-bay. The other 3 coins in the lot were absolutely trash with holes, cleaned bent, scratched etc... but, this 1857 looked like something I could take a shot on??? Tom Hallenbeck coins on E-bay.... Thanks Tom!
Bought raw on E-bay which was listed as an 1859. On receipt, the coin turned out to be an 1858. Sent to be certified
POP 1 coin... Bought raw at the Sept. 2021 Denver coin show... Still a POP 1 coin in FR2 in JAN 2024!
Bought raw and certified. This is the "Weak O Mintmark" variety. PCGS for some reason does not recognize this particular variety?? Larry Briggs calls it REV B Broken "O" Reverse. "Heavy die polishing removes lower 2/3 of mintmark to the point of vanishing."
Bought in an ANACS AG3 holder at the Grapevine Show in 2021 and crossed over to PCGS AG3.
MADE... This was sold by Great Collections in a PCGS FR2 holder which was clearly closer to a PR01 coin than the holder it was in. Obviously, there were other bidders who were thinking the exact same thing as the coin was pricey! Cracked the coin out of its' holder and sent it in raw; now in the correct grade holder! On a side note; am I the only one who thinks the large "S" mintmarks of the era are great looking!!?
POP 1... Nothing Lower.. Bought Raw at the 2021 St. Louis Coin Show and certified.
POP 1 Nothing Lower... Bought raw from Harry S. and certified. This is a very tough coin!
Purchased raw from Brian Greer in mid January 2024 and certified.... This particular 1868-S has an extremely weak "S" mintmark which was noted by Brian when I bought the coin from him. The mintmark is so weak that PCGS initially checked the coin in as a Philadelphia Mint coin! I requested that they take a second look at the coin as it was in fact an "S" mint.... They looked at the coin again and agreed... Giving PCGS a break as the mintmark is VERY hard to view, and even with a loop you have to search for it!! Larry Briggs book does not mention anything about this fact; if you are reading this and have come across this date/Mint with an extremely weak "S", please leave a comment... Thanks
CAC This coin was purchased from David Kahn Rare Coins at the 2022 ANA the very first day of the show...
Bought certified from Liz Coggan who bought it at the Conroe, Texas show earlier in the year.
POP 1 Lowest pop... Cherry Picked... Denver Coin Expo 2021 RAW. This variety is still out there and cherry pickable! You need some good light and a good loupe to see the initial horizontal "S" underlaying the correctly punched vertical "S". This is especially true when searching for Low Ball examples!
