After making the decision in 2002, to build a complete set of Winged Liberty Dimes, I didn’t dream I would be able to put a set together of this caliber. Many of the original coins have been replaced (upgraded) and, at this point, I have made my last upgrades with the last two on my wish list which are the 1926-S and 1927-D.

I never had a goal of being number one; however, this set did make it into the “entire all time finest list” at number five for some time during the spring and summer of 2004. In the early days the “Mercateers” where a very active group on the message board and much help was received. I will probably continue with some upgrades from time to time, but I have no more goals with this set.

Everything in the set meets my minimum of MS63 except the 1916-D in which I feel honored to have an AU50 example (the original 1916-D in this set was an AG03, replaced with a VG08). There is a similar scenario for some of the semi-keys and many dates in the 1920s. Some of these coins were hand selected and sent to PCGS for grading; some were in other services holders, broken out and sent to PCGS for grading, and some were purchased already graded.

The digital images have changed over time in this set as I went from an early point and shoot Polaroid PDC640 to a point and shoot Sony DSC-P73 to an SLR Nikon D40. From early on I used photos and as my digital cameras were upgraded I made new images of the coins in this set. My last goal will be to improve upon the imagery of each and every coin in this set.

Lastly, I would like to thank my wife Linda for her patience, understanding, and a few coins! Also, thanks to Fairlaneman (Ken) and many others on the message boards for their help in knowledge and for allowing me to purchase some awesome coins from them.
