1826 Mint Set with Gold

The 1826 Mint Set is a very small set, made up of only a Half Cent, Cent and Half Dollar. No other Copper or Silver coins were struck for circulation that year. Only two gold coins were made, a Quarter Eagle and a Half Eagle and both are extremely rare. Only 760 Quarter Eagles were struck in 1826, and many of these were melted. The mintage of Half Eagles was much higher (18,000) but nearly all were exported and melted shortly after being struck. Consequently, they are of nearly equal rarity today, with roughly 30 to 35 of each known.
