关于此套币: I have always liked mints sets as small sets with a lot of variety. Unfortunately, few early years (before the introduction of the steam press in 1836) feature a full range of current denominations. The young Mint faced many difficulties and production of all denominations except for the staple cent, half dollar and half eagle were sporadic. Coins were also exported for their bullion value, leading to the suspension of the dollar and eagle in 1803/04. Consistent production of the remaining denominations resumed by around 1830. However, a reduction in the weight of gold coins in 1834 resulted in the melting of heavy coins left in circulation, and quarter/half eagles from the 1820s and early 1830s are great rarities today. Because of these two factors, 1835 is special as a complete set that lacks prohibitively expensive coins. Interestingly, it is also easier to complete than most later sets, which add tough branch mints and new gold denominations. My goal for this set was a uniform and original look.
