From 1879 through 1890, most of the nation's silver was coined into Morgan Dollars, leaving little for the minor silver coins such as Quarters and Halves. During most of this period, Quarters and Halves were struck only in Philadelphia, with a few Dimes struck also in San Francisco. Regarding silver coinage, Carson City and New Orleans would strike only Dollars. Due to the inactivity of the Branch mints, the 1890 set is small, requiring only 10 coins.
