The 1892 Mint Set contains one of the more unusual coins of the late 19th century. The 1892-S Dollar, while relatively common in lower grade, is an extreme condition rarity soaring to mid-six figures in gem condition. Unlike many Morgan dollars, nearly all of these went into circulation shortly after they were made, and very few survived in Mint State. In the minor Silver arena, 1892 marks the debut of the Barber series which replaced the Seated Liberty coinage after a 55-year run. None of these inaugural issues is particularly rare. Including Gold for 1892, brings several notable rarities into the picture. The 1892-O Half Eagle, by virtue of its 10,000 mintage is scarce, with only two graded by PCGS above MS62. Likewise the '92-CC Eagle is scarce in higher MS grades. The Double Eagles have a bit of a surprise, as the 1892-P is a low mintage date (4430 minted). Both it, and the Carson City issue both run into the mid-five figures above MS62.
