关于此套币: I originally started this set in recognition of the 'Klondike Gold Rush' in Yukon Territory, Canada. We were planning a trip to Alaska and I like to research our destination and spots to visit along the way. The scene depicted on the Alaska license plate is of miners climbing the Chilkoot Pass on the way to the gold fields. The RCMP would not allow prospectors over the pass without 2,000 lbs. of food to survive for one year. That meant an average of 20 treks over the pass to accumulate the mandatory 'grubstake'.

It was not until later that I discovered this as the birthyear of my maternal grandfather, who was a kindly man with few faults, from my perspective. Very talented, hard-working, a great role model for me, and I sure looked up to him for as long as he lived. One of my fondest memories was when he taught me how to sail in Long Beach Harbor, I was 10 or so. This set is for you grandpa, you certainly were GRAND!

Born 29 July 1898 at Saginaw, Lane County, Oregon. Married Mildred Kent Hadley 28 July 1923 at Long Beach, Los Angeles County, California and died 6 January 1974 in Oceanside, San Diego County, California.
