1923 Mint Set with Gold

The Denver Mint this year only struck Peace Dollars, so the San Francisco issues will provide all the hurdles for this set. In particular, the Nickel and Half Dollar will prove elusive in the highest grades. Little minor gold (Quarter Eagles, Half Eagles and Eagles) was struck during the late 1910s and early 1920s. This was likely due to World War I, the severe economic times which followed, and the use of gold for striking Double Eagles. The $20s for this year provide a rare break, in that none of them are particularly scarce. Both are relatively common dates, and in fact, the 1923-D is plentiful even in high grade.
