1875 Proof Set with Gold

The 1875 Proof set grew to eight coins with the addition of the short-lived Twenty Cent piece. Both the three base metal coins and the five silver coins are of typical rarity for the period, and none are particularly difficult to acquire although the Twenty Cent piece can be costly in top grade due to its demand as a type coin. The gold this year is extraordinarily difficult. Virtually no 1875-P business strike gold coins were struck, and the twenty Proofs that were made don't do much towards easing the shortage of that date. Values for the 1875 Proof gold coins are roughly three to four times that of most other dates in this period, making this a set for the serious (and wealthy) collector.
