The dates were modified in 1960, 1970 and 1982, resulting in large-date and smalldate varieties for those years. The 1972 “doubled die” shows doubling of “In God We Trust.” The 1979-S and 1981-S Type II proofs have a clearer mint mark than the Type I proofs of those years. Some 1982 cents have the predominantly copper composition; others have the predominantly zinc composition. They can be distinguished by weight.
