James Barton Longacre’s Indian Head Cent design is one of the most popular in the entire spectrum of American numismatics. This statement was true back in 1858 and its even more relevant today. Most of the coins in this set are minor tweaks of the reverse design or tests of different alloys, but they all bear the popular Indian Head on the obverse. Several pieces are downright radical: J-220 with its double-date and scrawny Flying Eagle design; J-264 with it’s unusual, incuse designs; and the denomination-less J-266. There are some real toughies in here, including a few unique pieces, but there are also many moderately priced varieties that are still relatively inexpensive. However, the fun factor for this set is high, whether you have one piece or a dozen.
