Twenty Cents, Proof (1875-1878) - CAC

This is the 19th century version of the Susan B. Anthony dollar! The twenty cent piece was only issued for four years, then it was abandoned. Why? Many reasons, but the most notable was that it was too similar in size and appearance to the quarter dollar. Déjà vu, anyone? Today this four-piece set is a numismatic classic. Two of the four years are "proof only" as no circulation strikes were issued. The mintages are small, with the 1877 especially so at only 350 coins.
