- ITALY. Kingdom of Napoleon. 40 Lire, 1814-M. Milan Mint. Napoleon I of France. PCGS AU-58 Gold Shield. Fr-5; KM-12. Variety with "puntali sagomati". Only lightly handled on the high points, this shimmering example retains a good deal of brilliance and exhibits some light hairlines in the fields. The "puntali" refer to the spearhead ends of the battleaxes on the reverse. One variety (as here) presents them as wider blades, while the "aguzzi" variety presents them instead as much thinner points. Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500.
