Having built the all-time FINEST Mint State Set of Three Cent Silvers ever--the Law-Simpson Collection, our sister company Legend Numismatics has searched all over to find the VERY BEST pieces. They state this piece is tied for the finest. Only the Simpson coin is it's equal. ANY 1872 in MS64 or higher grades is an exceptionally RARE coin. How this coin exists in this lofty state of preservation is miraculous! Using a strong glass, you can see some light die clashing which proves out it being an Mint State vs a Proof. There are mirrored surfaces on both sides-that is to be expected from the tiny mintage 1,000 pieces. A phenomenal coating of light gold covers the centers while the peripheries are framed by a gorgeous ring of blue/violet colors on the obverse. The reverse is an even pale green/light blue/gold combo. Of course, the colors are totally original. Every detail is pinpoint sharp in strike and has thick frost. The eye appeal is like the rarity-tremendous! PCGS 1, NGC 1, CAC 1. In MS67+ there are only 2 coins-this one and the Simpson coin (which will not be for sale in our lifetime). This coin last sold in auction for $54,050 in a February 2015 auction. At that time Legend was contemplating starting another Mint State set-for its principals. Obviously, they changed their minds. This coin deserves to be placed in a remarkable collection! Once this coin is placed, chances are you will never have a shot at anything even close. The posted price guides are totally ridiculous--a coin like this should be $50,000-$75,000 easily in our opinion. Cert. Number 25219274 PCGS # 3693
