- THE TERRA PISTACIA COLLECTION One of the FINEST KNOWN examples of this popular Pattern Trade Dollar by William Barber. Featuring a coronet head of Liberty; Trade Dollar inscription within wreath. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. Rated as a Rarity-5, perhaps 31-75 were struck. These, and the following five Trade Dollar Patterns were distributed in six-piece sets, likely through well connected Philadelphia coin dealers. This is a truly spectacular GEM with wonderful, deep iridescent golden-brown toning blankets both sides. The reverse is framed in a ring of violet-teal, which really gives this J-1276 an impressive and totally original look and eye appeal. Wow! What a great coin! Ex Richard B. Winsor Collection, Chapman Brothers, December 1895, lot 1135 (part of a six-piece set, see following lots); J.M. Clapp Collection; Clapp Estate to Eliasberg, via Stack's in 1942; Louis E. Eliasberg Collection, Bowers & Merena, May 1996, lot 302 (described as Proof-66). PCGS 6, NGC 7. None have sold in nearly five years, the most recent was an NGC-graded example we sold as part of the Steven Cook Collection. More recently the Simpson Coin, PCGS PR64 CAC sold in February 2021 for $8,100. The PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $9,500. There is just a single example graded finer. What a great coin for the Pattern Collection. Likely held together since time of issue, it is our hope this and the following five lots stay together. Good luck. Cert. Number 4491582 PCGS # 61561
