1722 Rosa Americana halfpenny. Martin 3.10-C.5, W-1222. Rarity-4. UTILE DULCI. AU-55 (PCGS). 72.7 grains. Glossy chocolate brown with some subtle hints of golden color. Very sharp and appealing, free of any noteworthy problems. Some natural pits are seen, as struck, but they are microscopic and trivial. The obverse is aligned to 3:00, muddying some denticles on the right side, and the reverse is similarly aligned and struck. A pit within the rose petals beneath AM of AMERICANA serves as an identifier. Crisp at centers, handsome throughout, just a very attractive specimen. Provenance: From the Archangel Collection.
