1938 5C SP67 PCGS #31146

From the Cornerstone catalogue: "the official mintage shows only six sets struck, with only one original set containing a specimen strike of the five cent coin." This coin is the lone example known from an original 1938 specimen set, the The set was broken apart when George Cook bought just the nickel. It has since been regraded, as Cook cracked out all of his coins and put them in 2x2s, but its previous(now obsolete) cert number is consecutive to the original set from which it originates. Luckily this coin appears to have gone unharmed by Cook, as were many of his high quality nickel coins, some of which even upgraded from SP68 to SP69 after his collection was re-certified.
