With only 3 varieties currently recognized by the PCGS Registry Board, the IKE Variety set differs from the Business Strike Set by only the addition of 2 other coins. In 1972, 3 different varieties were produced as a result of experimentation by the US Mint on different die alloys. These are the 1972 Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3 coins. Since 1972 was not available by any means other than circulating rolls, these three varieties can be very difficult to obtain in a reasonable grade.
Along with these 3 varieties, it sure would be nice if PCGS were to include the other established varieties of this unique modern coin. Namely, the Friendly Eagle Variety from Denver in 1971 and the 1971-S Pegleg Silver Ike! Wink Wink

About Peg Legs, there are two 71-S BS Pegs and most of the clad Ikes can be found with die-clash die-abrasion peg leg: the exceptions, so far, are the 71, 73, 73-D, and 74. There are remarkable die-abrasion pegs in 76-Ds and 74-D that could be pranks of otherwise purposeful. Rob Ezerman
