Obverse depicts date in Gothic numerals (mddcccix .) and WW below the bust (the engraver William Wyon’s initials), with 48 border trefoils and the reverse showing crowned cruciform shields; bearing three lions passant for England, the lion rampant for Scotland and harp for Ireland. The angles exhibit a rose, thistle, rose and shamrock with a floriated cross in the center in angles within a tressured circular panel engraved by W. Dyce.
