Heritage Notes: 1839/6 Plain Cords Cent, VF30 N-1, Ex: Lee-Reynolds-Ellsworth 1839/6 1C Plain Cords, N-1, R.3, VF30 PCGS. Ex: COL Ellsworth Collection. Noyes Die State B/A. N-1 is the sole Plain Cords die variety for 1839. The obverse die was cut in 1836 but overdated 1839/6 prior to hardening. The present cent displays deep gunmetal toning throughout the fields, while golden-brown resides in design recesses. No marks or spots are consequential, though as an identifier we note a small depression on the reverse rim at 3 o'clock. Population: 5 in 30, 10 finer (1/23).
