His shrine and surrounding gardens, located on the outskirts of Acre (‘Akka), Israel, were listed by UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2008 for their "profound spiritual meaning" -- see https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1220 The news of His ascension was instantly communicated to the Ottoman Empire's Sultan Abdu’l-Hamid in a telegram which began with the words “the Sun of Bahá has set”. 1908 * Very 1st Bahá'i House of Worship completed in what was then Ishqábád, Russia -- it is now the capital of Turkmenistan. The temple was opened for prayer to all people, regardless of religion. All Bahá'i Houses of Worship are considered gifts to humanity and no outside donations are requested or accepted. Halfway around the world, in the US city of Chicago next to Northwestern University, this same year two plots of land were purchased for $2000 to begin construction of the 2nd Bahá'i House of Worship known as the "Mother Temple of the West." It is now a landmark historical site, named one of the 7 Wonders of Illinois. See https://www.bahai.us/bahai-temple Also in summer 1908, the Young Turk Revolution overthrew the Sultan's autocratic power and substituted therefor parliamentary government -- the complete end of the Ottoman Empire and abolishment of the Sultanate (which had existed for six centuries) was near, as forewarned by Baha'u'llah in a Tablet to Sultan Abdu’l-Aziz in 1867. In these letters, Bahá’u’lláh openly proclaimed His station as a Messenger of God. He urged the leaders to pursue justice and disarmament and exhorted them to band together into a commonwealth of nations, warning them of the dire consequences should they fail to establish peace. "Hearken, O King, to the speech of Him that speaketh the truth, Him that doth not ask thee to recompense Him with the things God hath chosen to bestow upon thee, Him Who unerringly treadeth the straight Path. He it is Who summoneth thee unto God, thy Lord, Who showeth thee the right course, the way that leadeth to true felicity, that haply thou mayest be of them with whom it shall be well … Observe, O King, with thine inmost heart and with thy whole being, the precepts of God, and walk not in the paths of the oppressor … Shouldst thou cause rivers of justice to spread their waters amongst thy subjects, God would surely aid thee with the hosts of the unseen and of the seen, and would strengthen thee in thine affairs … Overstep not the bounds of moderation, and deal justly with them that serve thee." ~ Baha’u’lláh, The Proclamation of Bahá’u’lláh, p. 47. Sultan Abdu'l-Aziz did not hearken to the message and either committed suicide or was assassinated in 1876. One important result of the Revolution was the release of all religious prisoners -- after 55 years of exile and imprisonment, 'Abdu'l-Bahá along with the rest of Bahá'is in the Holy Land were set free. He says the "1902-S is a generic date in the Liberty Head Eagle set but it is much harder to locate than the ultra-common 1901-S." He also says this coin "might grade MS64+ by today's standards. It has great color and is separated from Gem status by some small marks in the upper left obverse field." In the non-expert owner's opinion, the coin is made even more beautiful in the old green holder, and CAC approval shows it is indeed special.
