FROM THE P.F.M. COLLECTION. Truly a beautiful, brilliantly lustrous SUPERB GEM. A glowing luster beams from all over, offering a shining satiny frost that blends with a radial cartwheel effect on the obverse. Superior quality fields are devoid of any stray marks or even breaks in the luster. Nicely struck except at the absolute highest points of the design, including the curls above Liberty's ear and eagle's breast feathers. The cheek is free of anything that is visible to the naked eye, and holds up under magnification; indeed the only distraction found using a glass are some mint made planchet roller marks that were not fully struck out. There is no doubt that this coin is among the absolute finest of the variety. PCGS 8, NGC 2, CAC 5. PCGS and NGC have graded one coin each finer, both services show a MS67+ on their reports, but neither has ever appeared in auction. Also, no CAC-approved MS67 has ever sold in auction and we cannot find this coin listed in our auction database. The most recent PCGS MS67 to sell realized $15,275 in the 2015 ANA auction, and there is a record from 2013 for a one that sold for $22,325. Currently, the PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $19,500 and it would not shock us if this incredible GEM sold for a level in excess of that amount. Remember, only one coin is graded finer, and PCGS estimates that coin at $50,000! This exceptional 1880-CC will fit nicely in ANY SUPERB cabinet. Be prepared for record bidding! Cert.
