- CANADA. Dollar, 1947. Ottawa Mint. PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield. KM-37. The Maple Leaf, Doubled "HP" Variety. A bright and boldly struck example of this highly collectible variety with just a touch of peripheral toning. The maple leaf privy mark indicates this coin was struck just after India was granted independence thus invalidating the obverse die with "ET IND: IMP" in the legend. Since new obverse dies would take time to produce, the mint decided to continue striking 1947-dated coins with the outmoded obverse, but added the maple leaf privy mark just after the date for distinguishing purposes.
