A flash Choice example of the type with patches of amber toning that only add to the appeal of this piece. Perhaps a bit conservatively graded by PCGS, this will sure enhance the next collection it enters. Issued on the election of Archduke John of Austria as imperial vicar. This type is one of a series struck during the exciting days of 1848-49, when liberals gathered at Frankfurt to establish a German empire with a constitution and a parliament. The effort collapsed when Frederick William of Prussia refused the crown and unification had to wait until 1871, when Bismarck successfully prosecuted the Franco-Prussian War. Estimate: $300 - $500.
