- 1795 Liberty Cap Half Cent. C-6a. Rarity-2. Plain Edge, No Pole. Thin Planchet--Overstruck on a Talbot, Allum & Lee Cent--VF-30 (PCGS). This is the second of two 1795 C-6a half cents in this sale with particularly bold remnants of the Talbot, Allum & Lee cent undertype. On this coin, the full word LEE, the &, and part of the words ALLUM, YORK and the ship's rigging are plainly evident along the lower obverse border, obscuring the date for the half cent. At the upper right reverse border, one can see a nearly complete word LIBERTY from the undertype, the words STATES OF in the half cent's legend soft to absent. Steely antique copper surfaces exhibit suitably bold detail to all other elements of the half cent's design. A planchet depression at the upper left obverse is as made, a couple of tiny edge nicks at 9 o'clock on the same side noted for accuracy.
