- THE PERFECTION COLLECTION OF CAPPED BUST QUARTERS
A CONDITION CENSUS level example of this low mintage date. Only 16,000 quarters were delivered in 1824, and all 1824-dated quarters are struck from this single pair of dies. This "GEM" AU55 is incredibly HIGH END!
A flashy, essentially Prooflike brilliance in the fields are just about the epitome of perfection for an AU55. You can see a tiny, scattered contact mark or two with a glass, but there are no lines or signs of any cleaning of any kind. The reflectivity is strong and flashy, and both sides are evenly bathed in superb green, pale olive, blue, and gold antique patina that is totally original and gives this coin an absolutely stunning visual allure. Miss Liberty and the details are frosty and have remarkably strong strikes.
Ex Legend Rare Coin Auctions' Regency Auction XII, June 2015, lot 323; our consignor.
PCGS 5, NGC 4, CAC 5. This coin sold for $24,675 in June 2015; only one other AU55 CAC has sold since then, a less lively coin in our May 2017 Regency Auction, which brought $25,850. Both those APRs are well above the published levels in the PCGS Price Guide and the CAC CPG. PCGS has graded just four finer in all grades in the business strike format; NGC just seven. There is also an example in the Condition Census called "PR63," and has an extensive pedigree going back to Haseltine in 1881. This reflective, CHOICE AU has a fabulous look and is of very high end quality. Worthy of placement in another WORLD CLASS collection!
