- This is a very pleasing and RARE early New Orleans quarter eagle issue. Only 19,800 were struck, and PCGS CoinFacts estimates approximately 115 examples survive. David Akers and Doug Winter both agree that most known are in XF or lower grades, with properly graded AUs very scarce to RARE. The presently offered coin has a great look overall with a bright, brilliant yellow gold luster and a soft satin sheen that comes to life in a light. The details are sharply struck throughout, displaying better definition than normally seen on this date. Close examination of the surfaces show some old minor marks in front of the nose. The eye appeal is quite nice! PCGS 9, NGC 20. There has NOT BEEN a PCGS graded example sold in auction since 2002! The most recent AU55 was NGC and sold for $4,230 in January 2017. Clearly these are NOT COMMON at all! The current PCGS Price Guide is $4,000 and we think this coin could well bring more than that. Cert. Number 35822629 PCGS # 7726
