- THE B.S.T. COLLECTION Ex Col. E.H.R. Green and Eric P. Newman Collections, as noted on the insert. Tied for the FINEST B-5 struck for circulation, this beautiful GEM represents both the plate coins for the original Browning Reference as well as the Early Quarter Dollars of the United States Mint, 1796-1838 by Rory R. Rea, et al. Fully lustrous surfaces are brilliant and semi-reflective. The brilliant silver centers are framed by a gorgeous blue and deeper gold on both sides. Clearly this coin has been lovingly cared for while in the Green and Newman Collections before being certified by NGC in 2013. Sharply struck from an intermediate die state, this coin has a fantastic visual allure. The 1831 quarter was the issue of the new reduced sized quarter struck on a close collar press and the first quarters produced since 1828. The new small-sized type was reworked by William Kneass. The B-5 die marriage was used to strike both coins for circulation and Proofs for VIPs. This die variety is noted for its repunched date, listed also in the Cherry Pickers' Guide as FS-301. Ex. Col. E.H.R. Green Collection; Green Estate to St. Louis Stamp & Coin (BG Johnson and Eric Newman); Eric Newman Collection; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage, November 2013, lot 33350; our consignor, via Legend Numismatics. PCGS 5, NGC 24 (all varieties), CAC 3. This coin realized $32,900 nearly a decade ago, and has spent all that time in the B.S.T. Collection. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $35,000 and the CAC CPG value is $36,000. This GEM ranks among the FINEST graded for the date at NGC and will find itself at home in another AMAZING collection. Cert. Number 2037631030 PCGS # 38984
