详细说明: 1888-S Morgan Silver Dollar. MS-64 DPL (NGC). CAC. A brilliant and beautiful example that allows full appreciation of deeply mirrored fields and satiny, smartly impressed design elements. One of the more elusive Morgan dollars from the 1880s, the 1888-S is a low mintage issue with just 657,000 pieces produced. Although not represented to any great extent in the Treasury Department silver dollar releases of 1962 to 1964, many examples of this date were paid out by the federal government during the 1940s and 1950s. Most of those coins went to Nevada casinos or otherwise found their way into circulation, however, helping to explain the scarcity of Mint State survivors in today's market. The Redfield hoard dispersed in 1976 contained five to 10 bags, many coins therein Prooflike in finish, but most heavily abraded. Given that this issue is seldom found with DMPL/DPL contrast and minimal blemishes, the present 1888-S is a truly significant offering. NGC Census: 17; 3 finer in this category (MS-66 DPL finest).
