Solitary Example of J-1007 Certified by PCGS
1870 Pattern Dollar. Judd-1007, Pollock-1140. Rarity-7+. Aluminum. Plain Edge. Proof-65 Cameo (PCGS). CAC.
William Barber's Liberty seated to left on a draped pedestal, olive branch in her left hand, right hand on shield draped with ribbon, raised LIBERTY upon ribbon, liberty pole and cap behind, 13 stars around, date below. Reverse from regular-issue die of the date. Frosty silver-gray motifs and matching reflective fields form a pleasing cameo contrast. A whisper of pale champagne-gold toning graces both sides. The uspatterns.com website notes the following about Judd-1007: "This is William Barber's seated liberty design combined with the regular reverse die. Sets were available in silver, copper and aluminum with either reeded or plain edges. It is not known what price the Mint sold these for. This obverse was also combined with the 'Standard Silver' wreath reverse." The website notes just three or so examples are known in any grade. The finest Cameo Proof of the variety certified by PCGS -- indeed, theonly example of the variety certified within any designation by that firm-- and certain to draw much attention when the bidding begins as a result of its extreme rarity.
PCGS# 800097.
PCGS Population: 1; no others within any designation.
