- FROM THE EUEL DURWOOD JONES COLLECTION Ex Saddle Ridge Hoard, as noted on the gold label. The Saddle Ridge Hoard made international headlines in 2013 when a northern California couple discovered several tin cans filled with a total of 1,427 gold coins, made up mostly of double eagles, including 422 examples of 1889-S thus about 30% of the hoard was made up of this previously conditionally challenging date. This is a truly stunning example! A blazing golden luster beckons your eye from across the room, mesmerizing and enticing the viewer's gaze. It is amazing to ponder the buried treasure origin story behind this coin, and that it could have survived over 100 years buried on a plot of land in rural northern California. The surfaces a re pristine for the assigned grade and the devices are crisply rendered from an exacting blow from the dies. The eye appeal is stunning. PCGS 100, NGC 37, CAC 20. We can find only a single MS64 example from the Saddle Ridge Hoard selling in auction, a non-CAC coin that we sold in December 2019 for $7,638. A PCGS MS64 CAC from the extensive Fairmont Collection sold in April 2022 for $10,200. The current CAC CPG value is listed at $11,200. There are 25 examples graded higher at PCGS, no doubt most of those are from the same source as this superb example. Do not let this opportunity pass you by! Cert. Number 28809911 PCGS # 109012
