- Ex Eliasberg Collection, as noted on the insert. This SPECTULAR SUPERB GEM is most likely the FINEST KNOWN example of this date that survives. Currently tied for highest graded at PCGS, this coin used to be graded MS68 by NGC--it is that HIGH END! Essentially PERFECT with immaculate surfaces. Clearly its previous owners took exceptional care of it since it left the mint. (Many of these early 20th century superb gems from the Eliasberg Collection were purchased directly from the mint by John Clapp). The surfaces are flawless, even using a strong glass we are unable to find a single imperfection, anywhere. The surfaces are graced by a delicate, pearlescent patina, its subtle shades are brought out by a thick, frosty satin luster that glows from below the toning. The eye appeal is truly special! PCGS 8, NGC 6, CAC 7. This coin last brought just shy of $10,000 in our March 2019 Regency Auction, and it sold for $11,750 in the October 2014 sale of the Eugene Gardner Collection as NGC MS68. Even back in April 1997, this coin brought $9,900! If you collect Mint State Barber quarters, you know the Eliasberg-Gardner pedigree is tops! Cert. Number 81612898 PCGS # 5661.00
