- GREAT BRITAIN. Caroline Coronation Gold Medal, 1727. London Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-61 Gold Shield.
MI-480/8; Eimer-512. By J. Croker. Mintage: 138. Obverse: CAROLINA D G MAG BR FR ET HIB REGINA, mantled bust left, wearing bandeau; Reverse: HIC AMOR HAEC PATRIA, Caroline standing facing, head lowered slightly left; to left, Religion standing right, holding Bible; to right, Britannia standing left, holding spear and Union shield; in two lines in exergue, CORON XI OCTOB / MDCCXXVII. An EXTREMELY RAREoffering in gold, this majestic specimen--struck not for the king, but rather for his consort--features stunning luster and brilliance, along with decidedly problem free fields. Adding further allure, a subtle auburn-violet hue is sprinkled throughout. Tied with just one other example, and with only one finer, across both services.
Estimate: $5,000 - $7,500.
Provenance: From the Duke of Lansing Collection.
