- Any student of 20th century American numismatics has realized that during the First and Second World Wars, production at the mint was churning out huge quantities of coins and attention to quality was not paid--as such coins like the 1918 quarters are notorious for their weak strikes. In near GEM Mint State with full head definition, this 1918-S quarter is really going to attract serious attention. The satiny surfaces have an untoned silver brilliance that shimmers all over. Both sides are sharply struck for the date, from clashed dies. The only area of weakness we see is on the shield where a couple of the brads are not totally crisp. Every other detail is bold and the eye appeal is great for the grade. PCGS 104, NGC 55, CAC 9. Clearly, there are a lot of resubmissions hoping for a higher grade and CAC is TOUGH on Full Head quarters. There are only four coins graded MS64+ FH at PCGS, none of which have sold in auction. The current PCGS value is listed at $3,500 and the last one in PCGS MS64 FH CAC realized $3,290 back in the 2014 FUN auction and the most recent PCGS MS65 FH CAC sold for $21,150 in May 2015. This coin should sell for a very strong bid when it crosses the block! Cert. Number 35436565 PCGS # 5725
