1842-O Liberty Seated Quarter. Large Date. Briggs 3-E. MS-61 (NGC). Satin to modestly semi-prooflike surfaces are veiled in soft golden-silver iridescence. The strike is suitably bold for an early New Orleans Mint issue with most design elements sharply rendered. Although overshadowed by its identically dated Small Date counterpart, the 1842-O Large Date is a challenging Liberty Seated quarter to collect, especially in the finer circulated and Mint State grades. Indeed, Larry Briggs (1991) ranks Uncirculated survivors as Rarity-7, highlighting the significance of the present offering for the advanced collector. Provenance: From the Steve Studer Collection.
