- FROM THE UNFORGETTABLE COLLECTION WOW!!! This is one of the FINEST Sesquicentennials that exists! As a type the Sesquicentennial half dollar, with its dished fields often comes with shallow, soft strikes and lack luster surfaces. It really is interesting to consider that despite a generous mintage of 141,120, relatively few survive in GEM grade, and NONE have graded in the SUPERB grades. When we sold this Premium GEM back in December 2017, there were NONE FINER. This is the opposite of what a typical Sesqui looks like. Boldly and brilliantly lustrous, well struck, and well preserved. This example is fully struck up on both sides. The reverse has a semi-reflective lustrous sheen, while the obverse possesses a more frosty-satin luster. Lovely toning at the rims frame both sides imparting a bold visual allure. This GEM Sesqui is essentially on par quality and visually with the MS66+ we sold last year. PCGS 19, NGC 32, CAC 9. This is the most recent example to sell in auction, realizing $22,325 in our December 2017 Regency Auction. PCGS has graded four finer in MS66+, and we sold the most recent of those for $37,600 in October 2021. Worthy of a very strong bid, and placement in a world class set. If PCGS were to grade a 67, it would be worth into the six figure range. This is an excellent addition for the advanced commemorative collector. Good luck. Cert. Number 34468535 PCGS # 9374
