1854-D Liberty Half Eagle. MS-60 (NGC). Scarce in any mint state grade and highly collectible. The mintage of 56,413 pieces has been reduced through attrition and melting to perhaps 500 today, virtually all showing varying degrees of circulation. Struck in bright yellow-gold and fairly sharp on the stars and curls of the obverse and the feathers and claws of the reverse, with the softness limited to the ill-defined dentils that hallmark this issue. Clean surfaces for the modest grade as none are deep on Liberty's face or neck. Bold D mintmark variety and with average luster for this issue.
