- 1848 Braided Hair Cent. N-28. Rarity-1. MS-65 RB (PCGS). A hard, frosty Gem with an otherwise crisp strike that comes up short only at a few of the obverse star centrils. Iridescent steel-brown toning joins ample original mint color in rich orange-rose. The in hand appearance is impressively smooth overall, the only worthwhile provenance markers an ancient obverse carbon spot close in to the top of star 11 and an old reverse spot within the denticles outside the final letter A in AMERICA. As cataloged by Bob Grellman for the Goldberg's September 2009 offering of Part III of the Naftzger Collection: "Called MS65 and tied for CC#1 in the Noyes census...Our grade is MS65, tied for CC#1 honors...in the Grellman census."
