- A popular Carson City mint rarity, the 79-CC saw a mintage of only 10,708 double eagles. Overall the 78-CC and the 79-CC are of similar rarity and typically 79-CCs are seen in XF or lower grade. AUs are scarce. This one has a rich orange-gold color that is enlivened by a bold, retained luster. There are some minor friction lines seen but there are no serious marks worthy of mention and the eye appeal is decent overall. PCGS 39, NGC 47. The most recent NGC-graded example sold for $12,600 and the current Collectors Universe value is $17,500. A decent coin for the collector looking for a better CC $20.
