- 1853 Gold Dollar. MS-66+ (PCGS). This gorgeous gold dollar displays fantastic eye appeal with inviting satiny mint luster, a needle sharp strike, and frosty devices. Produced in prodigious quantities, just over four million gold dollars were struck in 1853 making for one of the most available issues of the entire denomination. Readily available in Mint State, the issue becomes challenging above the Gem level, with MS-67 the highest grade noted at NGC.
