1817/3 Capped Bust Half Dollar. O-101a. Rarity-2. AU-50 (PCGS). OGH. One of the sharpest and most easily appreciated overdates in the Capped Bust half dollar series, the 3 underdigit is readily evident to the unaided eye. This boldly and evenly toned example is awash in dominant steel gray patina, glints of pale powder blue and antique gold iridescence discernible at more direct angles. Sharply defined and otherwise appearing quite smooth, a tiny dig in the field inside star 1 is noted for accuracy.
