From our sale of the Maybach Collection, January 2019, lot 103, where it was described as: "This is a very eye appealing GEM example of this classic Buffalo nickel issue--one of the most famous issues in all of American numismatics. Highly lustrous surfaces beam from all over with a wonderful multi-colored iridescent pastel toning seen on both sides, especially on the obverse. Generally well struck, there is just a touch of the typical weakness known for the date, as the reverse die was worked over to take off some clashmarks. Indeed that is how this variety was created, when an overzealous filing with an emery board took off the some of the clashmarks, as well as the Buffalo's right front leg. Generally visible only with a strong glass is a tiny cut and a few minor ticks on the reverse." PCGS 55, NGC 54. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $24,000 and this coin brought $20,563.
