- 1811 Capped Bust Half Dollar. O-110. Rarity-1. Small 8. MS-64 (PCGS). CAC. A smooth and richly toned specimen with uniform satiny luster blanketing the surfaces. Violet and peach shades at the center are framed by vibrant sapphire blue at the borders. Drawn slightly towards 3 o'clock on each side and sharply struck throughout. The 1811 Small 8 variety represents a transitional use of this date punch employed since 1807. The Large 8 punch was introduced partway through 1811 and would continue to be used for the rest of the series. While the 1811 Small 8 is slightly more common overall, both varieties become very scarce approaching Gem condition. This MS-64 (PCGS) is significant survivor from the O-110 dies that is just shy of the Condition Census for the marriage. Provenance: From the Naples Bay Collection. PCGS Population: 29; 18 finer.
