- 1840 Liberty Head Eagle. EF-45 (PCGS). Original khaki-gold surfaces with boldly defined devices and faint remnants of mint luster. The Philadelphia Mint's third contribution to the long-running Liberty Head eagle series, the 1840 was produced to the extent of 47,338 pieces. This is an underrated issue, as are so many in this series, the present Choice EF representing the finest realistically obtainable for most gold enthusiasts active in today's market.
