- This is a very high end and high grade GEM B-2, that ranks near the top of the Condition Census for the variety. Five known die marriages for this date consisting of 3 different obverse and four different reverse dies. This variety, the B-2 is readily identified by the leaf which is connected to the denticles on the reverse. Vivid mint bloom gives this amazing coin its great look. The surfaces are creamy and snow white, offering a bold, brilliant luster. There are accents of a light reflection in the fields that brings out the soft champagne gold tone that flits across the surfaces. A strong glass reveals a couple of well concealed toning spots and a tick on Liberty’s cheek, but none of these are distracting to the overall AMAZING GEM eye appeal. Thick mint frost accents bold motifs which are remarkably free of weakness, particularly significant when one considers the screw press used to mint the coins. PCGS 3, NGC 1, CAC 3. There are two PCGS MS65+s graded and the other example sold in May 2015 for $54,050. In our opinion, this frosty, brilliant silver example is more attractive than the other mottle-toned example. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $55,000. The PCGS Population Report shows four graded finer, including the Clapp-Eliasberg-Pogue coin that brought almost a six figure realization in May 2015. This is an amazing type coin worthy of the finest type set Good luck! Cert. Number 7422965 PCGS # 5329.00
