- C-3, B-3. This is an AMAZING example of this EXTREMELY difficult final year of the series. Tied with the Missouri Cabinet--D. Brent Pogue Collection coin for FINEST graded at PCGS, this exquisite, CHOICE Draped Bust half cent is the PCGS CoinFacts Plate coin. Bold, satin frost glows brilliantly on both sides. A swirling cartwheel can be seen on the rich chocolate brown surfaces. Steely blue and light olive accents appear when rotated in a light. Well struck from the typically seen dies state (Breen II, Manley 2.0) showing light die rust on the obverse field and nearly full dentils on both sides. The date was initially punched in the working die as "180" and the 8 is actually 2 "0"s punched on top of each other. Adding to the intrigue of this GEM is the rotated reverse, which is struck in essentially medal turn, 180 degrees from its proper coin turn position. Just a few tiny ticks are seen with the aid of a strong glass, none of which detract from the outstanding eye appeal of this incredible Mint State example. There were three die marriages of 1808 half cents struck, C-3, B-3 is the only non-overdate example, and is considered to be quite common, HOWEVER, in Mint State, PCGS and NGC have graded just 16 pieces in all grades, with exactly ZERO graded in the RB or RD categories. PCGS 3, NGC 0, CAC 3. This coin is tied with the Pogue coin, which had some spots, and sold for $56,400 in March 2017. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $71,000 and with NONE GRADED FINER at PCGS, this coin will fit in nicely to ANY high end type or half cent collection. We doubt you will find anything like it again anytime soon! Good luck! Cert. Number 38454513 PCGS # 001107
