- 1897 Indian Cent. Snow-1, FS-401 (FS-011.5). Misplaced Date, 1 in Neck. MS-65 BN (NGC). Rivaling the 1867/67, 1873 Doubled LIBERTY, 1888/7 and 1894 Snow-1 RPD as one of the top varieties in the Indian cent series, the 1897 Snow-1 MPD is readily identifiable by an errant digit 1 that protrudes from the front of Liberty's neck. With only a handful of Uncs known, the importance of this glossy tobacco-brown survivor cannot be overstated. Minor striking softness is evident near the upper obverse border, as typical of the variety, but otherwise we note bold to sharp detail for both sides. With modest pale-gold undertones to the obverse, and no individually mentionable blemishes.
