This is a totally original GEM Proof example. Early Proofs like this are usually seen in lower grades, and are rarely seen so fine. The fields of this beauty are wonderfully watery with a bold reflection that comes out from below a dusting of dappled azure and rose on the obverse. The devices are sharply struck up and frosted, the reverse shows a delicate band of gold at the rims, blast white mirrors and a near CAMEO look. Old lines are seen with the aid of a glass, but they are totally appropriate for the assigned grade and do not impact the amazing eye appeal. Only 800 Proofs were struck. PCGS 12, NGC 22, CAC 2. This is the ONLY PR65+ graded by either service and there are just seven coins graded finer. NO PCGS CAC PR65 has ever sold in auction. Indeed the only comp we can find is an NGC PR66 CAC that sold nearly five years ago for $7,638. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $5,000 and this is a coin that would be at home in any exceptional set of Proof Seated Liberty quarters. Cert. Number 36777546 PCGS # 5555.00
